A continuously updated online bibliography and database collecting Hungarian career guidance literature since 2010, organising articles, books and research for practitioners, counsellors and academics.
Objective:
A collection of articles on career guidance, primarily from the work of department members, as well as available career guidance bibliographies. Our own articles are currently being organized into a database.
Target group:
- Experts (carrier guidance counselors, sociologists, psychologists, researchers on pedagogy and employment, HR staff)
- Career guidance practitioners (counselors, teachers)
Description:
Since 2010, we have been collecting articles, books, and book excerpts written and submitted by members of the department, which are generally available online, on a separate page on our llg.hu website. Inspired by the department, a collection of Hungarian career guidance works published after 2010 was created as a thesis. Together with the existing bibliography containing works published before 2010, this is also included on the website.
The articles are currently listed on the website in chronological order, without any grouping or tagging. We are in the process of uploading our own articles to Wikimedia and linking them to a pedagogical database that is currently under development. We have developed the categories, content categories, and tags relevant to us, which are available to users and those who wish to adopt the system. The structure of the database will also be available and freely usable.
Access:
Implementation steps:
- Central coordination: A responsible person is necessary
- Call for participation: A call for the members to send their articles and recommendation for links, articles etc.
- Planning: You must decide about the content of the bibliography and the database, and its place on the website. To be included in Wikimedia, you need to contact a media editor and request permission. The development of the database structure and the query system require coworking with a database developer, but for followers it is not essential.
- Promotion: There wasn’t a wide promotion yet. We promoted the bibliography on our mailing list and on our events. We are going to promote it by sending e-mail to educational authorities, schools, universities etc. when the construction of the database will be ready
- Delivery: The database will be ready at the end of the year. Then we can deliver the structure and the labels.
- Recognition and follow-up: A continuous follow-up is necessary.
Necessary conditions:
- Material resources: Central website, database (optional)
- Budget: Basically, there is no additional expense, but cooperation with a web designer or a database designer could be necessary. If you would like to expand the database for a wider literature of carrier guidance you shall have a budget for tagging articles.
- Staff: 2 volunteers or employees for the construction of database and for communication with the members, after it 1 volunteer 1-2 hours per month for technical issues and communication. Good cooperation with members is necessary. If you would like to expand the database for a wider literature of carrier guidance, you’ll have a budget for tagging articles
- Conditions of success and lessons learned: The will of members to collect and make accessible their works is essential. It is hard but important to work up the evidence to send the articles to the administrator of website. To build up a structure for database isn’t easy, but it will be ready in Hungarian, so your duty will be only the adapting. The continuous maintenance of the bibliography is essential.
