Career guidance in higher education across Central and Eastern Europe

28.11.2025 16:00 – 17:30 CET / 17:00 – 18:30 Romanian time
Career counselling in higher education plays a key role in preparing students and graduates to navigate an increasingly dynamic and competitive labour market. In central and eastern Europe, universities are facing both shared challenges and unique national realities in supporting students’ transition from academic learning to professional fulfilment. This event aims to foster dialogue among experts and practitioners from the region, highlighting effective models, institutional approaches, and innovative practices in university-level career counselling.
The discussions will focus on the similarities and differences between career guidance systems in Southeast European countries, exploring how counsellors, psychologists, and educators can collaborate to enhance students’ personal and professional development.
We are pleased to announce that the event will be facilitated by Elena-Irina Macovei, psychologist at the University of Bucharest and psychotherapist in private practice. With extensive experience in therapeutic work with adults and adolescents, she has supported individuals facing challenges related to career orientation, mental and emotional health, trauma recovery, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, stress and burnout, sleep disorders, phobias, post-traumatic stress disorder, addictions, and eating disorders.
Dr. Macovei graduated from the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași, where she also completed a Master’s degree in Organizational Psychology and a PhD in Sociology. She holds advanced training in Ericksonian Psychotherapy and Clinical Hypnosis, bringing a holistic and integrative perspective to counselling and mental health support.
From Slovakia, Veronika Zibrinyiová, director of the Counselling Centre of the P.J. Šafárik University in Košice (UNIPOC) will present the current situation in Slovakia and the activities of the Centre.
The guidance services provided to the Czech university students will be presented by Klára Trávníčková, head of the Information and Guidance Services Center of the Czech Technical University in Prague (ČVUT), and Přemysl Gubani, head of the Career Center of the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague (ČZU).
Key themes of discussion include:
- General overview of and comparative perspectives on career counselling in higher education across Southeast Europe.
- The role of psychological support in guiding students through professional transitions.
- Integrating therapeutic and counselling approaches to foster resilience and well-being among university students.
Join us for a professional dialogue on how career counselling can empower students, bridge education and employment, and shape a more responsive academic environment in Southeast Europe.
